The Junior High School of Aiani is located in homonymous village in the south of West Macedonia which administratively belongs to the Prefecture and Municipality of Kozani with 3.500 residents. The school has 75 students aged 12-15 and 15 teachers. It provides general education and two out of three foreign languages (English, French/German). The students have participated in various in school and out-of-school activities related to environmental issues, health and culture topics. They have participated in European projects in the past years and are aware of the added value of the European prespective in cooperation. This project is a good start for them to exploit the issue of nutrition, a part of the local culture which is in danger of being overwhelmed by modern trends in teenager habits of junk food. Their area is famous for the folk gastronomy festival, but the students lately do not feel it is part of their life. Putting nutrition in the forefront of education can show them their rich heritage and teach them the value of their food history. We would like to have this chance to turn their minds towards the healthy lifestyle of their past, combined with the knowledge of their curriculum subjects and let them explore on their own the potential of their choices. The key people in charge of running this project are Mr Mike Pappas, the headmaster and Language teacher, with expertise in health and culture projects and Mr Apostolos Mastranestis, Informatics teacher who will guide them through ICT to a fresh perspective towards a modern approach on Nutrition. In case they leave, Ms Afroditi Alvanou, French teacher and Mr Christos Gyltidis, PE teacher are both highly motivated and sensitive to health issues. The latter is also a coach of European athletes and practices various diets on sports health.
