Stredná zdravotnícka škola, Košice
Stredna zdravotnicka skola is situated in Eastern Slovakia in Košice, which is the second biggest city of the country. Our school is vocational school which prepares students for professions in the field of medicine. The number of the students aged from15 to 19 is approximately 515 and the number of teachers is almost 80 as about half of them are professionals and experts working in hospitals, pharmacies or laboratories. Students, who are recruited from the whole region of Eastern Slovakia, can be admitted through entrance examinations. The school is mainly directed towards natural sciences, but at the same time it aims at reaching the highest possible standard in specific fields of humanities, especially in foreign language teaching and IT.Economically, Eastern Slovakia is the least prosperous region of Slovakia, with high unemployment rates. The unfavourable economical situation grossly prevents students from travelling abroad. This fact strongly decreases their necessity of using English in real-life situations and experiencing different cultures. Our school has participated in two multicultural projects so far, both as a partner organization. The headmistress and the contact person are the two key people in this project. The teachers involved in the project are concerned with languages, history, IT, PE, chemistry, biology and nutrition. Many of them have experience in international projects and skills that will be useful for managing the new project successfully and will take over the role of the project in case the key people leave their posts. Our students - future pharmacists, laboratory staff, nutrition specialists, opticians and dental assistants acquire important work skills and experience regularly since practical lessons on premises areincluded in the curriculum. So they are highly motivated to improve their working and communication skills. Many of them wish to widen their horizons working in other countries. These are the main reasons why contact and cooperation with people from different countries with which they might communicate in English or German and exchange best practices as well as views of life and opinions would be highly beneficial. Taking part in the project would help our students to understand life and attitude to food among teenagers in partner´countries with the aim to contribute to analyze, discuss and possibly change food habits since our specializations study the impact of food on life. Bothteachers and students have considerable experience with projects on local
